2min Run, 2min Walk X 6 reps.
Playlist: The Todd Glass Show - Sarah Silverman and Kyle Dunnigan
Back on track, finally. The first couple of intervals sucked, but it did get easier by the end. I was glad it was finally over, though. I should be OK for Week 3. Hopefully I'll finally be free of this cough.
When breathing gets difficult, I really hate smokers. I had to run through several of their clouds on my run today and got stuck behind some puff-nugget walking down there. I never really understood it. When you're out in nature or on the Seawall or at the beach, how does having a cigarette improve the experience? I'll grant that smoking around a campfire can be relaxing, but then there's already a ton of smoke in the air. When you're out there where it's crisp and clear, why fucking spoil it for the rest of us? Even when I smoked, I always made a point to tar up my lungs away from passing crowds. I don't remember so many smokers being so inconsiderate.
And who the hell smokes in the age we live in? What irresistible force is drawing kids in to start these days? It's definitely not advertising. Some boy scout saw fit to Photoshop the cigarette out of Audrey Hepburn's hand for a calendar. Most smokers I know or knew wish they could quit. Many have succeeded. So somehow, I don't think word of mouth is filling the ranks. Peer pressure? With friends like that...
To be fair, probably a quarter of all the annoying smokers I run into are old Chinese guys or ESL students. I'm sure the advertising budgets for all of the tobacco companies have focused on foreign markets. There's not much of a counter effort beyond these borders to stop them churning out stinky addicts. That kind of sucks, don't you think? First world problems.
